Back on August 10th, Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track, welcomed a first time feature winner into victory lane. Cardell Potter took the lead from Tim Syvrud on lap five of the 35-lap feature event and would go on to hold off Steve Lichtfeld for his first ever feature victory.

“Oh yeah, I was pretty speechless there, that was a ton of fun out there getting to race with those guys and it meant a lot to get that first one,” Potter recently stated.

The 16-year-old driver from Camp Douglas, WI is in his first full season at DRP racing in the Limited Late Model division. “I have been racing snowmobiles for 12 years, started when I was four years old,” Potter recalled. “So the stock car stuff is all new to us but we are having fun and learning a lot.”

He is also enjoying the competition he faces every week on the 1/3-mile oval, “Everybody is right there. The drivers have been doing well and it’s a lot of fun getting to race with some of these older guys and the younger guys as well,” Potter stated. “It’s a great mix of ages and learning a lot by getting to race with the veterans like Rocky Breezer, Rich Schumann Jr. and Mike Ehde and the rest, I’m learning.”

As far as his future, he is taking it one step at a time, “Right now, to race here at the Dells and of course, we would like to move up like everybody else. We will see what we can do and see what the future can bring us.”

And the biggest thing he has learned so far by racing at DRP? “Have patience, have a lot of patience.”

Oh yeah, ever wondered how a driver comes up with their car number? “Well, I was born on 5/8/1992 and we used my birth date to come up with that,” Potter explained.

Make sure to visit the pits after the races tonight and stop by and meet this 16-year-old talent!!!
